Summary: Xander takes Spike to see the Northern Lights

Northern Lights

Spike looked up at the dancing lights up above, “why do you think they move like that?” he asked.

Xander shuffled closer until his back was against the windshield. The metal in the hood of the car made a quiet noise of protest. “I thought you said you knew everything?” he whispered into Spike’s ear as he placed his arm around him.

Spike didn’t move his gaze from the beauty overhead as he pushed his shoulder lightly against Xander’s body, “I did not!”

“Yeah, sure, must’ve been the other blonde vampire I know that said that.”

They both sat there in silence for awhile before Spike snuggled in closer and looked sideways at Xan.

“I can’t believe you drove me all the way out here to see this,” he said.

Xander shrugged, “you told me you’ve never seen them before and...” he trailed off, shrugging once more.

Spike took his chin into his hand and looked into those dark brown eyes, “and what, pet?”

Xander leaned a bit closer, “Everything we’ve done together has been a first for me—while you,” another embarrassed shrug, “you’ve already done everything---I just wanted to be your first something—even if it’s just, the first person who brought you to see the Northern Lights.”

Spike smiled lovingly and placed his cheek against Xander’s as he whispered, “everything, absolutely everything, you and I do together is a first for me, Xan.”

Xander snorted, “Yeah, cause you and dead boy never got it on the whole twenty years you lived together.”

Spike pulled back and looked into those brown eyes that meant more to him than blood, “Xanpet, I may have been with him but..." he trailed off and placed his cold hand on Xander’s warm chest. The thumping of his heartbeat against Spike’s hand made him smile, “you touch me in ways no one ever has—I can feel how much you care with every caress-- every smile.”

Xander shook his head, “Spike, I don’t just care about you—I love you,” he whispered the last part.

Spike face transformed looking as young as he ever had, “Now, that—that’s the first, I’ve been waiting for my whole existence.”

Xander furrowed his brow, “no ones ever told you they’ve loved you before?”

Spike shook his head, “no ones ever said it and meant it before.”
